Hate couldn’t even match up to the white-hot emotion pulsing through his veins. Regret and frustration swam along his bloodstream, consuming him slowly from the inside.
His anger was aimed at all of them. At his parents, who got them into this mess. At Potter and Weasley, who were stupid enough to get captured by the Snatchers. At his deranged aunt, who was lashing out her fury at her.
Her. He hated her for being what she was; for making him feel torn, for making him question why he was merely standing there and not lifting a finger to help her. He wanted to, but he had no idea how to. He wanted to take her away from his aunt’s evil clutches and tell her that everything will be alright. That the word Bellatrix had maliciously sliced on her forearm didn’t mean anything.
Her screams rang hauntingly in his ears as his aunt continued to cast the Cruciatus spell on her, making him tremble uncontrollably in his seat as he tried to block out the broken pleas from her lips.
“Please…”
His eyes swiveled down to her curled form on the floor, meeting her pain-hazed gaze through the moisture glassing his grey orbs.
“Sorry, Granger.” he mouthed, hoping that she would understand.
